If you had any interest in Nollywood as at 10 years ago, then you must know Kalu Ikeagwu.
The undeniably handsome, sexy, I-will-wink-at-almost-any-lady-and-have-her-thinking-I-am-1980-Michael-Jackson stunner literally had many young ladies swooning when he came on screen.
Not because he was a whirlwind or some serious sickness that caused dizziness, it was because the Actor was not only a great interpreter of roles but easily became part of the ever-growing list of lover boys in Nollywood.
Starring in Emem Isong classics with a long list of fine Actresses as bae, it was not shocking to watch the gorgeous Kalu get treated badly by a woman he loved while he begged, pleaded and worked so hard for his woman’s love.
He was literally everything.
The only thing he did not do was to release an R&B hit single to cement his place in the heart of the ladies.
Still, he became that man.
However, like many Actors like him who interpret certain roles well in and out of Nollywood, they run the danger of being typecast.
Too many films soon began to see Kalu as Mr Lova lova.
Up until recent times.
In 2018, Kalu Ikeagwu was on the small screen as Madu in Forbidden; a twisted 40 something-year-old who had the nerve to sleep with his goddaughter and shamelessly throw it in her mother’s face.
He was ruthless, didn’t mind for blood to flow and was thirsty for revenge.
It was not the first time Kalu was portraying a bad boy. Far from it. However, it reminded one of how well he does bad as well as good.
He is a good bad guy.
And that badness he continued with when he picked the script for Code Wilo the movie.
Starring as a spoilt, slighted elder brother who believes the governorship candidacy his sister has belongs to him, viewers will watch the handsome Kalu scheme, do bad things and remain stoic.
He plays the role too well. And whether or not he will continue to do films like this and act roles like this, isn’t the conversation here.
The conversation is Kalu Ikeagwu has been a Nollywood lover man for a while now. And, he just may be one of the few who would do bad in a badass way, as good as he did good.
